Oklahoma City · One-on-one instruction
Baseball lessons that build the player, not just the swing
Private hitting, pitching, catching, and mental-game coaching for youth players across the Oklahoma City metro. One player, one coach, one hour of full attention.
Serving NW OKC, Edmond, Yukon, Bethany, Moore and the surrounding metro.
What I teach
Four things, taught properly
I'd rather go deep on a few things than claim to do everything. These four are the areas I've played, studied and coached hardest — so this is where I can move the needle most.
Hitting
Swing mechanics, timing, and pitch selection — built around the athlete's body instead of a template.
Hitting lessons → 02Pitching
Mechanics, command, arm care, and how to think your way through an at-bat instead of just throwing hard.
Pitching lessons → 03Catching
Receiving, blocking, footwork, pop time, and running a game from behind the plate. My old position.
Catching lessons → 04Mental Game
Handling failure, staying present, and competing when it's not going well. The part almost nobody coaches — and the subject of the book I wrote.
Mental game →Also available
Fielding and base running. Infield work with a focus on second and third, outfield fundamentals, and the base running almost nobody practices.
Speed, agility and strength. First-step acceleration, changing direction, and age-appropriate strength work for the athlete under the player.
“Making learning fun through gamification of drills, effort, and hard work.”
The difference
Baseball is a game of failure. Most lessons ignore that.
A hitter who succeeds three times out of ten is having a great season. No other youth sport asks a kid to fail that often and come back tomorrow wanting more.
Plenty of coaches can fix a swing path. Far fewer spend any time on what happens in a player's head after they strike out looking with the bases loaded — or on the drive home afterward. That gap is where most young players quietly lose their love for the game.
I coach both. Mechanics and mindset, in the same hour, because on the field they were never separate things.
- One player at a time. No group of eight rotating through a cage. The whole session is theirs.
- Built on their body. Mechanics get fitted to the athlete in front of me, not copied off a big-leaguer's video.
- The mental side, on purpose. Routines, self-talk, and resetting after a bad at-bat — coached, not left to chance.
- Parents get the plan. You'll know what we worked on and what to practice before the next session.
- Honest assessment. If a player needs something I'm not the right coach for, I'll tell you and point you somewhere better.
Who I work with
From first season to varsity
Some players come to me because they've never been taught properly and everything feels hard. Some come because they're good and want to be better. Both are welcome, and they don't get the same lesson.
I work with players from rec ball, select and travel programs, and school teams across the metro, ages 7 and up — baseball players, and fastpitch softball hitters and catchers too. What matters more than level is whether the player actually wants to be there. If they do, we'll get somewhere.
I came up through this game myself — Little League and high school ball in Washington, then junior college, then Northern State University at the Division II level, where I switched from catcher to pitcher. Learning a brand-new position that late is its own kind of useful when you're coaching a player through something they can't do yet.
I've coached youth athletes off and on since 2006, most substantially two and a half years running instruction out of 520 Elite Hitters Club and Crush Cages in Casa Grande, Arizona, before bringing it to Oklahoma City.
How it works
Simple, and no pressure
You reach out
Fill out the form with your player's age, position, and what you're hoping to work on. It takes a minute.
We talk it through
A short call or message exchange so I understand the player and you understand how I coach. I'll give you rates and availability here — no obligation.
First session
Mostly watching and assessing. I want to see what the player already does well before I change anything.
A plan, and then reps
We settle on two or three things worth working on, and you get something concrete to practice between sessions. Progress comes from the work in between.
What families say
From parents I've coached for
Both of these families worked with me in Arizona. I'm building from scratch here in Oklahoma City — but the coaching is the same. Verified on Lessons.com →
★★★★★Tanyon has been working with Sean for almost a year in Batting, Pitching, and Catcher instruction. Covering not just the fundamentals but the mindset and approach to the game. As a parent I have seen the growth and results on and off the field. Tanyon is always excited for the next game, the confidence is there, really fun to watch.
★★★★★Coach Sean is an exceptional baseball coach who brings enthusiasm, patience, and expertise to every training session. He has an incredible ability to connect with players of all skill levels, ensuring that each player feels valued and motivated. Since our child started working with Sean, we've seen remarkable improvements — not only in their skills but also in their confidence on the field. Sean's positive approach and his ability to break down techniques in an accessible way have made a huge difference. We highly recommend Coach Sean for anyone looking to see real progress in their player!
“Better players — but also better humans.”
Questions
Things parents ask
What ages do you work with?
I work with athletes ages 7 and up — from a first season of coach pitch all the way through high school.
Where do the lessons take place?
I travel to you. Lessons run at your field, your cage, or a facility your family already has access to, anywhere in the Oklahoma City metro. We sort out what works best when we talk.
How much do lessons cost?
Lessons start at $75 an hour. The exact rate depends on session length and how often we meet — send me a note through the consultation form and I'll give you straight numbers, with no obligation and no sales pitch. I take cash, Venmo, Apple Pay or Zelle.
My son or daughter is brand new to baseball. Is that a problem?
Not at all. Beginners are often the most rewarding to coach, because good habits are easier to build than to rebuild. We start with what they can already do and go from there.
Do you only work with catchers and pitchers?
No. I played catcher and pitcher, so those are the positions I know most deeply — but hitting is the most requested thing I teach, and I work with players at every position.
What areas do you serve?
The Oklahoma City metro — including NW OKC, Warr Acres, Bethany, The Village, Nichols Hills, Putnam City, Edmond, Yukon, Deer Creek, Piedmont, Mustang and Moore.
Let's talk about your player
Tell me a little about them — age, position, and what you're hoping to work on. I'll get back to you personally, usually within a day.
